Mindy Nye

I began flying in 2015 when a tour of Los Angeles turned into an introductory helicopter lesson. From the first day I took controls in a helicopter, it was clear to me: I wanted to become a pilot. I have since obtained my Helicopter Commercial Certificate and an Instrument Rating. Along with flight training, I’m also a teacher at a mindful meditation center for children ages 5-8. One day, a student of mine had to be immediately transported for emergency surgery. I witnessed first-hand the importance of emergency medical services. For a series of days, I would go visit her at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). In these days, my two very different worlds of flight training and working with children began to take more shape. My focus is now on becoming an EMS helicopter pilot. A few ways that I share my passion for aviation is through Girls in Aviation Day, Career Day at local airports, and helping to raise scholarship funds through silent auctions. With the Dare to Dream Scholarship, I’ll become a Certified Flight Instructor!
